-Wipe mat and props on all surfaces before and after class

-Mats will be placed at the markers on the studio floor

-Instructors will use verbal cues only and will maintain 6 feet from students

-There will be no communal water available; please be sure to bring a water bottle

Prop Rules

FRESH AIR & SUNSHINE IS FOOD!

3 underrated but potent vitamins!

Hello all, here to let you in on a little secret of 3 super potent vitamins that are crucial for our health and wellness yet we often overlook them… Can you guess what they are?

I’ll give you a clue: they are all around you, don’t cost a dime and are accessible at any time of day…and makes a great Mother’s Day gift!!

That’s right! I’m talking about nature, fresh air and sunshine!

But first, why am I talking nature, fresh air and sunshine as vitamins?

Let me explain…

We are so conditioned to think that vitamins are something manufactured in a lab and labeled that we need to purchase in a bottle at a store that we forget to open our eyes and look all around us. Vitamins are everywhere!

Nature itself is a multi-vitamin world but it’s often the last thing we turn to for our vitamin fix simply because we are not conditioned to think of it as… nutritious. But it is… so hold tight while I go into more detail…

So, what are the 3 most underrated yet most potent vitamins?

  1. Vitamin N = Nature
  2. Vitamin FA= Fresh Air
  3. Vitamin S = Sunshine

Never heard of them before? Well, don’t worry because you have now! Did you know that instead of exploring the great outdoors the average American spends most of their time stuck in stale offices and dark living rooms? Even kids today spend 7 hours more on academics and 2 hours less on sports and outdoor activities per week than they did 20 years ago. Well unfortunately, all this indoor living is devastating to our health! Research shows that children who get more “vitamins N, FA and S” have lower stress levels, more success in school, and fewer ADHD symptoms. And adults who exercise and socialize more in nature are happier people all round. We all know that simply being in sunlight triggers our skin to make vitamin D, also known as the ‘sunshine vitamin’. Research has linked low vitamin D levels with depression, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, osteoporosis and cancer. To make sure you have enough Vitamin D, be sure to get at least 15-20 minutes outside WITHOUT sunscreen. Why? Because sunscreen (high and low SPF factors) prohibits the body from making vitamin D by 95 %.

So, in light of all this it is so important to get outside and get lots of nature (VITAMIN N), fresh air (VITAMIN FA) and sunshine (VITAMIN S)—these are super potent forms of food for our bodies!

How can you get more Vitamin N, Vitamin FA and Vitamin S this month?

  • Make outdoor adult play mandatory—splash in puddles, go for a bike ride, pack a picnic, go for a hike, practice yoga outdoors.
  • To avoid the typical 3pm slump, take a 10-15min walk outside and drink in fresh air instead of coffee.
  • Try gardening! Getting your hands in the dirt is actually good for you—there’s a strain of bacterium in soil—Mycobacterium vaccae—that has been found to trigger the release of serotonin, which in turn elevates mood and decreases anxiety. No wonder kids already know that digging deep in dirt makes them happy!
  • Move your kitchen outside—fire up the grill and make fun creations such as fruit kababs, or if you have kids, let them personalize meats by brushing on sauces before cooking.
  • Sleep under the stars—even if camping without a bathroom isn’t for you, you can pitch a tent or put up a hammock in your backyard!

To your health!

April Newsletter

April is here!

This is the perfect time to enjoy yoga and receive it’s cleansing benefits! At the beginning of the year many people started their yoga practice, while others deepened their practice. It was a time to celebrate and be intentional with being healthier.

Easter is a perfect time as well. Now is a time to connect with our breath and our body’s movements while celebrating rebirth and a new beginning; one of hope and renewal. Get your family and friend engaged…and don’t forget the kids! Kids love yoga!!

Here are some suggestions for your Easter Yoga practice:

  • Practice outside. Connect with your senses: touch, smell, taste, hear. Tune into your surroundings and invite them into your practice.
  • Enjoy poses that resemble the thinks we associate with Easter. Can you move your body into a shape of an egg, a duck, a bunny? Explore all the different shapes your body can make.
  • Do four rounds of Sun Salutations. Soak in the return of the sun!
  • Try hip openers. This is a great way to bring hope and joy back into our lives. Hips are a place we tend to store anger.
  • Savasana!! Create space and allow for extra time to experience whatever emotions may rise. Enter and exit this pose slowly and gently.

Enjoy your Easter weekend all. Even if you don’t recognize Easter as a Holiday, do something kind for yourself. Get outdoors; connect with nature and your inner being. Life has so much to offer and the blooming of all the amazing creatures we are surrounded with reminds us how amazing our life cycle is. Be present. Move. Breathe.

“Easter is meant to be a symbol of hope, renewal, and new life.”

~Janine di Giovanni

March Newsletter- Hello Spring!

Update as it seems this Newsletter did not reach all subscribers!

It appears March has come in like a lamb, will it go out like a lion? March is a beautiful month and Spring is in the air. This month, we celebrate the first day of Spring: The Spring Equinox. The spring equinox occurs on Saturday, March 20th. In the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate the March equinox when the Sun crosses the equator line and heads north in the sky. After this day, we start to experience increased daylight and warming temperatures.

How might YOU celebrate? Observe nature! Birds will start to migrate north, days get longer, we are awakened by the singing of birds. Flowers start peeking through the soil. People will start planting their gardens. The Sun is getting stronger, so we start to feel things warming up. Not only do things out in nature start coming alive but people also start enjoying the great outdoors again. We are all getting the itch to ditch the warm layers of clothes too!! Now is a great time to satisfy our craving for lighter, fresher foods as well. Don’t forget to check out the produce sections in the markets and attend the Farmer’s Market to stock up on your spring greens!

Bring the Spring Equinox (Vernal Equinox) to your mat and let’s celebrate together. Vernal meaning “of the spring”, “new” and “fresh,” and equinox comes from the Latin aequus meaning “equal” and nox meaning “night”. We will experience a balance of day and night; equal amounts of lightness and darkness on the same day. In your yoga practice, bring your imaginative and creative energies to explore and discover the balance within your mind, body and soul. Rest in the darkness and bloom in the lightness. In the lightness, release your fears and surrender into new intentions. This month celebrate life, growth, and rebirth!

Never yet was a springtime,
Late though lingered the snow,
That the sap stirred not at the whisper
Of the southwind, sweet and low.

– Margaret Elizabeth Sangster, American writer (1838–1912)

Have a great day,

Infinity Studio Staff

Hello February

February is a short, yet mighty, month where we have lots to celebrate. Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, Optimist Day, Wear Red Day, Play Outside Day, Ash Wednesday, Love Your Pet Day, American Heart Month, Black History Month and so on. Celebrating February as the shortest month of the year with some self-love is both nourishing and exciting.

This year, consider celebrating YOU!  Below are 7 ways ideas to bring self-love into your routine:

  1. Send yourself flowers. We have amazing flower shops here in Winona and it would be a great way to support local businesses as well as nourishing yourself by bringing something pleasant into your home.
  2. Date Night. Consider watching your favorite movie or try a new one. Bring the movie theater experience into your own living room. Don’t forget the popcorn and your favorite beverage!
  3. Try a new recipe. Make time to get creative in the kitchen. Spice up a personal favorite or try a new recipe someone shared with you.
  4. Pamper yourself. Light your favorite candle, draw a nice warm bath, play your favorite relaxing music, and enjoy. Afterwards, settle in with a good book, a cup of hot tea and cozy up in your favorite blanket.
  5. Purchase something nice. Buy the book that has been on your read list, purchase the sweater you have been looking at, or  the houseplant you’ve been wanting to add to your collection.
  6. Bake. Nothing beats a warm kitchen with the wafting scent of homecooked goodies.
  7. Play cupid. Spend a little extra time nourishing yourself and others. Spend an extra 5 minutes in bed, or send a quick message to a great friend, give to your favorite charity, call a family member.

Spread some L-O-V-E!

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller

With great excitement we welcome 2021. Many of us have probably already been contemplating on what this new year will bring us. Some of us may already be asking ourselves the questions “what do I want 2021 to look like?” or “what changes do I want to make?” The fleeting questions, thoughts, wishes, and wants may be ones of ease or challenge.

This month’s newsletter will hopefully provide some guidance taking a pause before we take the next step forward. Here are a few tips to help you on your quest of 2021:

  1. Choose a word of the year. What is one word that can describe the tone of your new year?
  2. This may be the year for you to appreciate everything you already have.
  3. Connect and grow. Commit to your own religious or spiritual celebrations.
  4. Take a walk and focus on your five senses. Come alive.
  5. Write a letter to yourself and to people in your life that make it a better one.
  6. Do one small act of kindness every day. Be kind to yourself, someone you know or a stranger.
  7. Write down your favorite part of the day and place it in a jar. At the end of the year, take them out and remember all the little things that happened.
  8. Choose to be happy.
  9. Do more of the things that bring you joy!
  10. Come from a place of love in all you do. Show up in every situation the way you want to be remembered.

However, you choose to bring in the New Year, do so intentionally and authentically. We all have the opportunity to write a new life’s chapter, make it one you want to read over and over again.

December 2020 Newsletter

Here marks the ending of an unforgettable year. The year of 2020 brought so many unpredictable events and experiences. These major world events created a shift amongst us all. Australian bushfires, royal family breakaways, COVID-19 pandemic, celebrity deaths including the death of a Supreme Court Justice, unprecedented presidential events including a major election, Hollywood turmoil, a stock market crash, Black Lives Matter protests, social media uproars, explosions, firsts in the political world, west coast wildfires, and so much more.

What are some of the positive things? Pet adoptions have increased, wild animals are doing well since the pandemic, smaller gatherings for celebrations, people deciding to live a more intentional and mindful life, Mother Nature is bouncing back, real estate prices are rising, traditional work environments are shifting, people are choosing to read more, we are seeking for more facts vs being influenced by our surroundings, medical science is rising to the test, drive-in movies are back, and people are coming together to support their local businesses, and so much more.

These are merely just a small glimpse of all that has happened in a year…and we have one more month to go. May this be a time for reflection and growth. May we choose to rise-up and become better humans. May we find humanity again and come from a place of love. May we continue to connect with the people that mean the most to us. May we remain intentional and mindful. May we all learn and discover new ways to live a happier life; a life of purpose, understanding, compassion and empathy. May we all continue to nourish ourselves so that we can be the best version of ourselves. Let us choose to make the best of this month and make it the best one yet. Let’s unite as a community, as a state, as a nation, as a interconnected world.

Happy December. Thank you for your continued support. We are grateful to be a part of a community that comes together in a time of uncertainty. Continue to take care of yourself, your family, your neighbors, friends, and community. We welcome the challenges and the opportunities for growth as we close out 2020 and open 2021!

November 2020 Newsletter

Happy November Studio Community!

This month is full of events for many of us. Another month of also dealing with a pandemic and it certainly will be impacting us in various ways. As I was thinking about what to write for this month’s newsletter, I decided to focus on a day that many of us may not know exists. November 13th is World Kindness Day! I do not know about you, but I sure could use some more kindness in my life.

As we all know, we have a lot of things going around lately. Some of those quicker than what we would like! Therefore, can we also spread kindness as quickly as other things are spread?? YES!! When we share kindness to others, in return, those same people will likely share kindness too.

Acts of kindness can be small and simple but have big and lifechanging affects. Not only does it feel good to do something nice for someone, it also feels good to receive that nice act. It shifts our moods. Other people notice and it positively impacts them as well.

Think of a time that you witnessed a small act of kindness. Didn’t it make you smile too? Didn’t it encourage you to do something nice as well? We all have the potential to improve each other’s lives through compassion, kindness, understanding when we come from a place of love.

What if each of us intentionally does something nice for someone today…every day? Whether it be a stranger, your neighbor, a friend, a family member, a coworker how might you spread some kindness? Maybe it is sharing a smile and a friendly hello, thanking a postal worker or the cashier at the grocery store, writing a kind note or writing a letter and giving it to someone you care about or gifting a class from our Infinity Yoga Studio!

On November 13th, World Kindness Day, let your inner light shine bright! Take action in a kind way. Share kindness as much as you can. For fun, check out children’s books on kindness. One I would recommend is “Be Kind” by Pat Zietlow Miller.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the month of November. Be kind.

October Newsletter

Welcome Fall Season!

This time of year is always an exciting one for me. I have been hearing the chatter of fallen leaves rustling around on the ground, I have been watching the beautiful display of changing colors of the trees around me, smelling the fresh and crisp air of autumn, and feeling the grounding affects as a trek through nature.

Autumn has been one of pleasantness for me. I think of the cozy sweaters and all things apple and spice. This season is one of the most beautiful to me and to our humanness. It is a reminder of just how impactful Mother Nature is on our lives.

Autumn brings a time of change. As we all know, change is the only constant. It is a time to connect with our bodies, minds, and spirits. Connect with our surrounding, our environment. Take the time to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. Be present, be alive.

As nature around us is changing, how are we changing too? It seems like this is a time for mystical unknowns. What will we choose to let go of, choose to hold on to? How can we choose to live a more fulfilled life?

Now is a time to think about protection. What do we need to survive? Thinks of the animals preparing for hibernation, what foods are they beginning to collect for winter storage? Our farmers are busy in the fields for the harvest season. People are enjoying the last few days where they can be outdoors and moving before settling in for our own human hibernation rituals.

Hot teas, warm sweaters, our favorite knitted scarf and hat. We start to protect our bodies and find comfort in the coziness of snug and quaint spaces in our homes. We feel safe and sound.

Our autumnal equinox brings us balance. Day and night are the same length. How does this resonate with our own longing for balance in our life? How do we find our peace, harmony, and solitude with the change of lightness and darkness?

Here are a few things you may choose to do to celebrate this autumn season:

  1. Make a gratitude list and connect with it daily
  2. Create balance at home by decluttering
  3. Find time to do arts and crafts
  4. Start something new, something you have always daydreamed about
  5. Visit our local farmers market or orchard
  6. Eat seasonal foods
  7. Decorate your home with fall colors and crafts
  8. Meditate and practice yoga
  9. Build a fire and watch it dance
  10. Create a bedtime routine
  11. Be one with nature; go outside and connect
  12. Let go of what is no longer serving you

Enjoy this fall transition. Connect with your inner being. Breathe. Rest. Restore.

September Newsletter

Hello Infinity Yoga Studio Community,

Monday September 7th, we celebrate Labor Day here in America. Typically, we celebrate by having picnics, parades, and grill outs. This year our celebrations may be a little different than past years, but the reason why we acknowledge this well-deserved day means something so much greater.

The first Monday of September is reserved for the day we recognize America’s workforce and the people who continue to sustain it. For many of us, Labor Day also signifies the end of summer and the transition into the fall season.

Maybe this year, you choose to celebrate in a new way. Celebrate in a more personal way. Do something new…maybe take a walk in nature, take a new class, cook a new recipe, read a new book, or take a new approach to a daily routine. Whatever you decide, do it with kindness…kindness to yourself and others.

Updates in the studio:

We will be having a couple more in-person classes added to our September class offerings. All classes will be updated on our website and social media (Facebook and Instagram). If you have not already discovered, Infinity Studio has an Instagram account. Please follow us @infinity_yoga_studio.

Welcome Katie K and Katie J

Hello Yoga Studio Community,

Please help us welcome two new studio staff yoga instructors:

Welcome Katie Kabat!! Katie is our newest yoga instructor and will be offering an in-person 6am Rise and Shine flow class on Tuesdays (in-person) and a 7pm Restorative yoga class on Sunday evenings via ZOOM.

Katie is a wife and mother dedicated to raising wild and creative little humans. She made it through college by a dedicated yoga practice, then traveled the world and started a family, before returning back to yoga. She recently completed her 200-hour training at Palm and Pine in La Crosse, WI. In this busy season, she turns to yoga to calm her mind and reconnect with her body. Katie believes yoga invites embodiment, interoception, and holistic healing. She will allow the breath, movement and mindfulness of the vinyasa style yoga class to lead students to a more present moment-mindset creating more stability and ease in life.

Katie also has additional yoga training in Kids Yoga and Trauma Sensitive Yoga 20-hour workshop. During the school days she works as a teacher at a local Montessori School.

 AND

Welcome Katie Jensen to our Infinity Yoga Studio family! She will be offering classes on Mondays (virtual via ZOOM) and Thursdays (in-person) at 5pm!

Yoga, to Katie, is a chance to check in with yourself and take a little break from life’s demands. Sometimes you get a chance to have a studio experience and completely escape from the world around you, other times – you have to shut your office door and just breathe and take a few movements to continue your day. May Newsletter

Dear Infinity Yoga Community,

Welcome May!! We hope you all had a wonderful May Day and have been enjoying the weather. We were hoping this monthly newsletter was going to be a joyous one announcing our excitement of seeing you in-person soon…however, it looks like our re-opening has be extended just a little bit longer.

We wanted to inform you of some things that we have been doing to prep for when we re-open. The studio and studio props have been disinfected and organized. We have also been meeting and planning on how to keep our studio one that is safe and adheres to the recommendations of the CDC and MDH in the future. We want to make sure everyone is comfortable and safe here at Infinity Yoga Studio.

Since the cleaning and organizing, we have a CALL TO CLAIM yoga mats that have been left at the studio. If one of these mats are yours, we would love to know which one so that we can better store these for you. You may either call Infinity Chiropractic & Yoga office at 507-453-7941, contact your instructor, or email Heather at hgerdes76@gmail.com. We are still discussing what to do with any unclaimed mats, we will keep you posted.

The following are virtual options Infinity Yoga Studio is offering during this time:

Mondays at 6pm:

Heather’s Beyond Our Mat Workshop is still going. This workshop identifies how yoga goes beyond our physical practice and looks deeper into the 8 limbs of yoga.

Thursdays at 5pm:

Heather is offering her Basic Fundamental Yoga Class. This class is intended for beginners, people returning to yoga, or prefer a slower paced yoga class.

Both of these options are FREE but donations are welcome as well as the option to use your purchased punch card.

Do you know someone that would love to join our Infinity Yoga Studio community?

Please consider purchasing a gift card or a yoga package. This can easily be done over the phone by calling 507-453-7941.

You are all missed! Here are some messages from some of our studio staff:

“Hello Infinity Yogis, I hope this finds you well! It’s a pretty wild time to be a human and I’m leaning heavily into my practices of self care. Outside of my own practice, one of the best things I’ve done for my mental health was attending a monthly mental health check in for creatives.

The La Crosse YMCA website also has some wonderful inspirational and helpful information about resiliency in times of crises.

If you’d like to continue practicing with me I am still teaching a few times a week online. You can find links to those videos here. I hope to see you on the mat soon!” ~Elle

“I miss my attendees and look forward to seeing you soon.” ~Deb

“Greetings, Infinity Yogis! I hope this finds you and your loved ones staying healthy and well. It’s no secret that we miss you and that we’re looking forward to seeing you in person and in the studio, one day soon. Until then, I encourage to find a moment of presence each day, a moment to bring awareness to your breath and your surroundings. It can be hard when our days seem to blend together, but I ask that you try, my friends, try to find that moment. It will remind of us being alive and grateful.

A new reading recommendation includes, “The Wisdom of Yoga: A Seeker’s Guide to Extraordinary Living” by Stephen Cope. The topic of samvega as discussed on pages 13-16 seems appropriate for our times. Samvegathe oppressive sense of shock, dismay, and alienation that come with realizing the futility and meaninglessness of life as it’s normally lived; a chastening sense of our complacency and foolishness in having let ourselves live so blindly; and an anxious sense of urgency in trying to find a way out of the meaningless cycle.” ~Sarah

Our breath can alter our mood and psychological state. Conscious breathing provides oxygen and energy to our cells and enhances all cellular processes.

We Miss You!

Happy Sunday!

What a strange time we are all sharing in life right now. Previously mentioned in our Newsletter, communications would be sent out at the first of every month. However, due to the unforeseen circumstances, we find it appropriate to increase our communication as we are all trying to find ways to stay connected in the world.

Infinity Wellness & Yoga Studio would like to give a shout out to all the amazing people coming together to assist our community and the greater impact it is having on a global level. We love seeing all the imaginative ways people are taking care of themselves and each other. It warms our hearts to be part of such an amazing community in Winona.

We have an amazing community of yoga studios that are doing their best, working hard and keeping us all connected through live streaming yoga classes right here in Winona. One of our very own yoga instructors, Elle, is one of the amazing people to offer this form of connecting. If you want to learn more, please see below for more information. We appreciate your patience, support and understanding while we will continue to get creative in how we can remain connected.

For the next few weeks, Heather will be engaging with all of you via Facebook and our Newsletter to look at yoga from a different perspective. Yoga is much more than the physical practice. Now is a perfect time to go above and beyond our mat and take our yoga practice into all areas of our life. Heather is offering a deeper look into the 8 limbs of yoga. If you are interested in being a part of this virtual workshop, please email her at hgerdes76@gmail.com.

Here at Infinity Yoga, we are a small yoga studio with lots of heart and people who share their love and knowledge of healing through Yoga, Qi Gong & T’ai Chi, and Pilates. During this time, we know many people are facing economic hardships and we want to make Heather’s online workshop accessible to all. There is no charge to participate, however, if you would like to donate to our studio, use your yoga punch card for payment or purchase a yoga studio package we can make those arrangements.

Human connection is what we miss the most BUT we love getting creative and learning a unique way to still feel the joy our in-person classes brings us. To keep us all motivated please take a moment to reflect on the question, “Why do I practice yoga?”

We will continue to keep you informed of changes and updates. In the meantime, please check out some of our staff favorites for in-home practices:

I revisit two books often, in crisis or calm, and would be happy to recommend them to our students: “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz and “The Yamas and Niyamas” by Deborah Adele. I’d also recommend as much outdoor time as possible; visits to the Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge and our ample MN and WI state park systems: Beaver Valley Creek, Great River Bluffs, Whitewater, Perrot, and Merrick. Much love and stay well!”

COVID-19 UPDATE: INFINITY YOGA STUDIO IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING ALL CLASSES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Hello Infinity Yoga Community,

As of today Monday March 16th, 2020, Infinity Yoga Studio will temporarily suspend all yoga classes. Our hope is to resume all classes as normal starting Sunday April 5th. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 updates shared by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the World Health Organization (WHO). It is important to us to do our due diligence on educating ourselves on best practices and minimizing the spread of the Coronavirus disease.

The health of our yoga students, instructors, Infinity Practitioners, patients and community remain a top priority! As individuals we play a critical role in stopping the spread of this outbreak but as a collective group, we can make an even bigger impact. At Infinity Yoga Studio, we believe it is up to us to come together and demonstrate how much we care about the health and wellbeing of not only our Infinity Community but beyond. By taking these next precautionary steps in postponing our in-person yoga classes we can flatten the curve in the Winona and Global Community.

We encourage each of you to continue your personal yoga practice in your own home. Now is an important time to connect with our breath, mind, body and soul. Our wonderful Elle is currently exploring and preparing online classes to share. Feel free to email her at Ellenewman11@gmail.com if you have any questions regarding the online option. We are hopeful to have more virtual options available to you shortly.

It is our promise to keep you informed of any updates and changes here at the studio. Please continue to stay engaged in the conversation. We will communicate via email, our website https://infinitywinona.com/ and Facebook. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at hgerdes76@gmail.com or communicate with your yoga instructor.

We appreciate your patience, understanding and feedback. We are a community; we are in this together.

Best,

Your Infinity Yoga Studio Team

“You won’t ever never know if what you did personally helped. That’s the nature of public health. When the best way to save lives is to prevent disease rather than treat it, success often looks like an overreaction.” –Mari Armstrong-Hough, Professor of Global Public Health New York University
