COVID-19 UPDATE: INFINITY YOGA STUDIO IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING ALL CLASSES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Hello Infinity Yoga Community,

As of today Monday March 16th, 2020, Infinity Yoga Studio will temporarily suspend all yoga classes. Our hope is to resume all classes as normal starting Sunday April 5th. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 updates shared by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the World Health Organization (WHO). It is important to us to do our due diligence on educating ourselves on best practices and minimizing the spread of the Coronavirus disease.

The health of our yoga students, instructors, Infinity Practitioners, patients and community remain a top priority! As individuals we play a critical role in stopping the spread of this outbreak but as a collective group, we can make an even bigger impact. At Infinity Yoga Studio, we believe it is up to us to come together and demonstrate how much we care about the health and wellbeing of not only our Infinity Community but beyond. By taking these next precautionary steps in postponing our in-person yoga classes we can flatten the curve in the Winona and Global Community.

We encourage each of you to continue your personal yoga practice in your own home. Now is an important time to connect with our breath, mind, body and soul. Our wonderful Elle is currently exploring and preparing online classes to share. Feel free to email her at Ellenewman11@gmail.com if you have any questions regarding the online option. We are hopeful to have more virtual options available to you shortly.

It is our promise to keep you informed of any updates and changes here at the studio. Please continue to stay engaged in the conversation. We will communicate via email, our website https://infinitywinona.com/ and Facebook. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at hgerdes76@gmail.com or communicate with your yoga instructor.

We appreciate your patience, understanding and feedback. We are a community; we are in this together.

Best,

Your Infinity Yoga Studio Team

Doesn’t a massage sound good right now?

Lucky for you Emily Wehner still has appointments available Friday (tomorrow) Jan. 15th. One of the many things Emily is trained in is Myofascial release which is especially good at untying your knots! Read more about Emily and Myofascial Release below.

We’re also in the time of year where the sun can feel like a distant relative, the kind we love dearly and want to see more often! Because of the gray cold weather, we spend less time outside, and our mood isn’t the only thing to suffer. One thing that can help  (assuming you can’t just take off for Hawaii) is Vitamin D. Read on for more about the importance of Vitamin D and K2, and to learn about one option for Vitamin D at Infinity.

Remember Heather (Gerdes) Lorenz? If you don’t check out our last newsletter for more information about all that she offers! Beginning in February she is also adding a Basic Fundamental Yoga class on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings. Read below for more information.

Featured Practitioner: Emily Wehner

Emily has been filling in at Infinity since January of 2019. Beginning Jan 21st she will be scheduled regularly from 4-7 on alternating Tuesdays. As mentioned above she is also scheduled tomorrow, and the rest of her schedule is below. You may also recognize her from her workshops on essential oils!

Emily has two years of experience in massage. She loves to problem solve muscular and myofascial restriction, and watch her clients progress, whether it be through range of motion or relaxation improvement. Her favorite modalities are Swedish, Sports Massage, Myofascial release, and Reiki. Emily is also trained in Prenatal Massage, Geriatric Massage, and Trigger Point Therapy.

Featured Service: Myofascial Release

John Barnes Myofascial Release:
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective restrictions with the goal of eliminating pain and restoring motion.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures.
Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on the skin without oils, cream, or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

Featured Product: NutriDyn D3 5000 with K2

It is crucial to obtain adequate amounts of vitamin D on a daily basis, and deficiency can lead to a host of health issues. Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) comes in a variety of forms, with evidence suggesting that the form MK-7 is particularly important for people that have chronic health issues causing nutrient malabsorption.

Given the importance of adequate Vitamin D levels in the body and many people’s lack of exposure to direct sunlight, D3 5000 with K2 supplementation can help users in a variety of ways. The most relevant research-backed benefits include:

● Support cardiovascular function
● Support healthy mood and stress levels
● Support bone and skin tissues
● Support immune function

If you are interested in finding out if NutriDyn D3 5000 with K2 is right for you book an NRT appointment with Sydney Swanson or Dr. Kristin Noble.

Basic Fundamental Yoga Class

This is a very basic introduction to Yoga. This class is intended to meet you where YOU are. This class will break down the barriers we place on ourselves while building our confidence as we learn more about each pose. Learn the benefits of the pose as well as play and embrace how your individual body expresses itself in it. Connect with our breath and eventually feel comfortable and confident enough to attend the next level class. Pose by pose, you are not alone, I will be there with you every step of the way and at your pace.

Depending on the length of the cleanse you will have 2-4 one-on-one sessions with coach Heather Gerdes throughout your cleanse process.

New Yoga for Beginners Class

Starting in the New Year I (Heather) am offering a VERY BASIC, VERY FUNDAMENTAL yoga class to my community. The intent is to meet YOU where YOU are.

I personally came to yoga as a way of healing. We all have our own story as to why we are drawn or feel called to yoga. It may be a story like mine and it may be totally different… and that is ok.

I’ve had numerous conversations with people who want to attend a yoga class but who have many reasons that stop them from moving forward and actually doing it. These are some of the reasons I’ve heard:

  • I am intimidated
  • I don’t look like everyone else in the class
  • I have no idea what to do
  • I am not flexible enough
  • I can’t concentrate, I can’t focus enough, I can’t.
  •  I am afraid I will fall, I am afraid I won’t be able to, I am afraid…
  • I don’t have a yoga mat, I don’t have the right clothes, I don’t have…
  • I haven’t practiced yoga in forever and feel shaky in my practice
  • I am too old to start
  • I am not sure if I would be good at it.

I invite you to join me and show up just as you are.

This class will break down the barriers we place on ourselves and building our confidence. I want to share different yoga poses, explain the benefits, play with the pose and embrace how our individual bodies express themselves in it. We’ll connect with our breath, and eventually “graduate” with the comfort and confidence to attend the next level of yoga (whatever that may look like for you). Pose by pose, you are not alone, I will be there with you every step of the way and at your pace.

If you are interested, please contact me at Infinity and let me know what time on Tuesday morning or anytime on Thursday would work for you.

Working together one-on-one is also an option for those of you who cannot attend a Tuesday or Thursday class

If you have any questions, please reach out to me! Yoga has been a life changer for me and I would love nothing more than to share it with you.

This is a great way to start out the year of 2020!!

Wellness News November 21st

The word Thankful spelled out in Autumn leaves

Hello Everyone,

Next week many of us are gathering with our families around tables brimming with larger-than-usual portions of delicious food we don’t usually eat. For those of us with food sensitivities, sometimes even the joy of seeing family can’t override the stress of negotiating these meals. We’re here for you.

Our goal is always to help you regain your ability to digest as many different kinds of foods as possible. To this end you’ll notice in this newsletter and in  Wellness News of Oct 28th we have featured different digestive enzymes that help with common food sensitivities. If you’re wondering which one of these to try consider booking an NRT session with Dr. Kristin or Sydney Swanson.

Sometimes all that’s needed is a new frame of mind to help us deal with the stress. In cases where reactions aren’t severe, and/or you have enzymatic help, consider just letting yourself enjoy your beautiful meal complete with a piece of pie. Remember, one of the worst things you can do for your digestion is clog it up with guilt!

Speaking of choosing enjoyment over stress, our featured service this week is massage therapy. While you’re booking booking your next appointment consider the people in your life who would love to receive a massage as a gift! We have gift certificates available for massage, sauna, yoga, and general use. Your holiday shopping could be really easy this year!

Notice our adjusted holiday hours below.

Featured Service: Massage

Here at Infinity we have three talented Massage Therapists on our team. Our therapists utilize classic restorative Swedish massage integrated with deep tissue and muscle release techniques to address therapeutic goals of softening adhesions, knots, and structural tension, while supporting muscular system health, skeletal alignment, and overall body wellness. Each therapist has a unique background that adds to their knowledge of the body and the therapeutic benefits of Massage Therapy.

Sharon Mansur is a Certified Massage Therapist, Reiki Master Practitioner, CranioSacral Therapy Practitioner, Registered Somatic Movement Educator/ Therapist, and Certified Movement Analyst through the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. Sharon is also a registered member of the International Somatic Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA).

Laura Graybar graduated with an Associates Degree in Massage Therapy from Southeast Technical College here in Winona. Laura has her Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing, and has been practicing as a public health nurse.

Laura is currently in the office on alternating Tuesdays and her last day is next Tuesday Nov. 26th.

Evelyn Trulen believes in a therapeutic approach to enhance your state of well being. Evelyn knows massage benefits are vast and can help everyone. She graduated from the Minnesota State College Southeast massage program and is versed in Swedish, deep tissue, and relaxation techniques.

Evelyn is currently in the office Mondays, alternating Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Featured Products: Digestive Complete and Digestive Complete

Digestive Complete is a nutritional supplement to help support healthy digestion and absorption of nutrients. Enzymes help break down proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids in the digestive system. Each nutrient category requires its own specific enzyme to break down and properly digest, so a broad-spectrum supplement is preferred for optimal healthy digestion. Digestive Complete also includes numerous complementary ingredients to further support healthy digestive function.
Digestive Vegetarian is a comprehensive blend of 11 non-animal derived enzymes that support proper digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, lactose, sucrose, cellulose, and maltose. Since each type of nutrient category requires their own specific enzyme to break down and properly digest, it is critical to use a broad spectrum supplement.

Featured Practitioner: Dr. Kristin Noble

Dr. Kristin Noble is a Chiropractic Physician, Acupuncturist, NRT Practitioner, and the owner of Infinity Wellness Center and Yoga Studio. Read more about her work in her own words.

I grew up in the Chicagoland area, and attended Winona State University where I majored in Biology and played on the softball team (2002-2006). After graduating from Winona State, I started at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA and received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2010. I worked in two very successful practices in Iowa after graduating gaining a wealth of knowledge in chiropractic, sports injuries, nutrition, and acupuncture.  I am so happy to be back in this area, and to give back to the community and people that were such a large part of my wonderful experience here in Winona.  When I am not here at Infinity, you’ll find me busy keeping up with my 9-year-old daughter Zoey, and Siberian husky Tundra.  I also enjoy being active outdoors, sports, yoga, cooking, movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Featured Product: Dynamic Detox 10-Day Program

dynamic detox program

The Dynamic Detox 10-Day Program is a nutritional plan designed to support your body’s natural metabolic detoxification processes (which in turn encourage alkalinity) while providing ample fuel for both cleansing and other daily activities, thereby promoting overall well-being.
While many “detox” protocols are convoluted and hard to follow, this program features a step-by-step game plan for every day, including exactly what to eat, what to drink, and how to properly use Dynamic Detox and Detox Support capsules for optimal efficacy and results. The shakes you see pictured here are available in chocolate and vanilla flavors. There is also a 28-Day Program available.

cupping therapy. You can see both the glass cups applied to a young woman's back and the marks they make when removed.

Did you know one of our massage therapists is certified in cupping therapy? Evelyn Trulen offers cupping in our office. It can be a very helpful addition to a traditional massage.

Cupping benefits:
  • Pain relief
  • promotes circulation
  • can relieve tension in shoulders that causes headaches and migraines

Infinity News: 4th of July Hours and More!

Hi Everyone,

We are looking forward to grilling with family, playing in the sun, and taking time to enjoy the lushness of summer. Of course we also make plans to take care of ourselves. Perhaps the most important thing we can all do is to stay hydrated. Set Intentions and Begin (Again)

This week we will begin our Journey into Spring Series and all of my classes will have themes around Intentions and Beginning (Again).

It can be a challenge to bring a beginner’s mind to a practice you do regularly. Heck, part of the inspiration for this series was finding a way for me to organize my own practice and my teaching in a different way. I invite you to join me and be intentional about bringing a beginner’s openness back into your practice.

Here are a few questions that might help:

  • What assumptions do you bring to the mat and why? For instance, if you always opt out of a pose and do your own thing, what’s behind these choices? Are there health reasons, or are you perhaps limiting yourself?
  • When was the last time you felt inspired on the mat? What did that feel like? See if you can remember where in your body you felt inspired.
  • What are things you love about your current practice?
  • When does your practice get challenging?

On Monday and Wednesday you’ll have opportunities to set your own goals for yourself for the next 10 weeks. I’ll hand out cards for you to write them on; these are just for you. Bring them to class, set them up under your mat, keep them with you.

I invite you to use the opportunity to think about your life off your mat as well. What are the things you are passionate about drawing into your life?Where are areas that need some extra energy? Are there areas you are looking to transform? There’s a sanskrit word, sankulpa, which translates as “inner resolve.” While we can resolve to work towards anything we think we want, I have found it’s most effective to combine this with getting to know ourselves and learning to listen to what our hearts yearning. Friday and Saturday classes will end with guided meditations that can be helpful to form one’s own sankulpa.

Retreating into Softness by April Herndon

Over the last few years, my yoga practice has become much slower and more methodical because that’s what my body has needed as I continue to grapple with the ongoing effects of Lyme. On some days, I can still do any pose I like; on others, many poses simply aren’t available to me. Last weekend, I went to a yoga and meditation retreat knowing part of me still grieved what I often think of as my more “athletic” and “intense” practice that I’ve left behind.

I went to the retreat because I wanted to challenge myself to take the instructions I give to my students every Sunday evening but that I still find hard to take into my own practice: listen to your body; support it; let it be soft; honor the things it can do on the mat for this hour of this day, knowing that the body is different each time, and knowing that all bodies deserve honor, respect, and joy.

I wanted to reconnect with my body. I wanted to learn to approach it with care and softness and to appreciate it for what it is now rather than what it was or what I imagine it used to be.
Each day of the retreat brought a new lesson to me about the power of supporting and appreciating my body as it is. In one restorative pose, I used a prop for support because I realized I couldn’t stay in the pose without it; it was empowering to take that assistance—to momentarily cast away any hesitancy to care for my own body for fear that someone might think I was weak. I let myself just stay in the pose with the support, and when any feeling of hesitancy or fear arose, I let myself feel it and then exhale it away. As I did, my body became softer, and at the same time I felt stronger in my resolve to support and honor my body’s needs and capabilities.

Later in the weekend, during a meditation, deep sadness for the body and abilities I once had arose again. At that moment, I finally allowed myself to grieve the body I lived with and through before Lyme. Our culture doesn’t talk nearly enough about how changes to our bodies and abilities affect us. After living in a body that works and/or looks a certain way for so many years, a different body is an adjustment and can feel like a loss; it certainly did for me. I let myself weep soft and silent tears for the body I once lived with; I sat with the grief and let myself remember the poses I once loved but now aren’t a part of my regular practice and how my body felt before arthritis settled in my knees.

And as I sat, a deer came to the window of the retreat center and looked inside. Behind him, the sky was lit with stars, and the tips of his small antlers rose to meet a constellation. When the wind kicked up and the white birches behind him swayed, he turned to go back to the woods. As I watched him go, I found myself weeping tears of gratitude to be alive and to be sitting there to witness such a sight—grateful for the body that let me do that. At that moment, I began to truly reconnect with my body.

Each day of the retreat, I found an intensity in the stillness of restorative poses, meditation, and Yoga Nidra that we seldom talk about but which is no less powerful and no less deserving of our respect as that more “athletic” practice I had left behind. In fact, I found myself rethinking what it means to have an “intense” practice and recognizing the power and joy of staying long enough in a pose or an emotion to connect with my body, my feelings, and my precious breath. Intensity isn’t necessarily about the physical feat but more about what we bring to our practice, and I was finding my own kind of intensity as I reconnected with my body. Finally, I let myself explore where I am with an open mind instead of constantly focusing on where I once was. Although it may not have looked like much was going on as I stayed in stillness, my practice was no less intense than any other I’ve done in my life.

My hope is to bring what I experienced and learned at my retreat not only back to my own ongoing practice but back to my students. There is no doubt that there are many physical benefits to the supported and long-held stretches that restorative poses offer and the deep relaxed yogic sleeping of Yoga Nidra, but these practices and classes offer more than that. While restorative classes and Yoga Nidra don’t always look like other yoga classes because we are so often on our mats and supported by props, these are practices that build a different kind of strength in our muscles, emotions, and spirits. They help build the kind of strength that lets us be soft in and with our bodies, to relax the tense muscles we so often use to protect ourselves, and to be kind to ourselves. These classes offer their own kind of beautiful intensity.

When we simply stay with our breath and our bodies and let ourselves explore rather than running away or imagining our bodies to be different, there can be joy, lightness, and a deep comfort. We learn patience and acceptance for ourselves and our bodies when we just breathe and stay, and we take that outside the corners of our yoga mats and into our lives.
I know that yoga has transformed my life many times, and the stillness of restorative work and Yoga Nidra have taught me so much about myself recently. I was transformed again at the retreat when I realized all the wonderful things my body still allows me to do. I found so much more than yoga and meditation on that mat, and I hope the same for my students.

Theme for Elle’s classes week of Jan. 6th

Do you know Mary Oliver’s poem Wild Geese? It’s one of my favorites and it’s familiar lines run through my mind often during my practice. Especially the first stanza,

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.

Don’t you love it? You can find the whole poem here. The new year is a good time I think to practice letting the our soft animal body love what they love. While the world is telling us to be a new better version of ourselves, I dare you to practice loving yourself instead. Move in a way that is good for your body, in fact move in ways that your body loves.
