Dear Infinity Yoga Community,

Welcome May!! We hope you all had a wonderful May Day and have been enjoying the weather. We were hoping this monthly newsletter was going to be a joyous one announcing our excitement of seeing you in-person soon…however, it looks like our re-opening has be extended just a little bit longer.

We wanted to inform you of some things that we have been doing to prep for when we re-open. The studio and studio props have been disinfected and organized. We have also been meeting and planning on how to keep our studio one that is safe and adheres to the recommendations of the CDC and MDH in the future. We want to make sure everyone is comfortable and safe here at Infinity Yoga Studio.

Since the cleaning and organizing, we have a CALL TO CLAIM yoga mats that have been left at the studio. If one of these mats are yours, we would love to know which one so that we can better store these for you. You may either call Infinity Chiropractic & Yoga office at 507-453-7941, contact your instructor, or email Heather at hgerdes76@gmail.com. We are still discussing what to do with any unclaimed mats, we will keep you posted.

The following are virtual options Infinity Yoga Studio is offering during this time:

Mondays at 6pm:

Heather’s Beyond Our Mat Workshop is still going. This workshop identifies how yoga goes beyond our physical practice and looks deeper into the 8 limbs of yoga.

Thursdays at 5pm:

Heather is offering her Basic Fundamental Yoga Class. This class is intended for beginners, people returning to yoga, or prefer a slower paced yoga class.

Both of these options are FREE but donations are welcome as well as the option to use your purchased punch card.

Do you know someone that would love to join our Infinity Yoga Studio community?

Please consider purchasing a gift card or a yoga package. This can easily be done over the phone by calling 507-453-7941.

“Greetings, Infinity Yogis! I hope this finds you and your loved ones staying healthy and well. It’s no secret that we miss you and that we’re looking forward to seeing you in person and in the studio, one day soon. Until then, I encourage to find a moment of presence each day, a moment to bring awareness to your breath and your surroundings. It can be hard when our days seem to blend together, but I ask that you try, my friends, try to find that moment. It will remind of us being alive and grateful.

A new reading recommendation includes, “The Wisdom of Yoga: A Seeker’s Guide to Extraordinary Living” by Stephen Cope. The topic of samvega as discussed on pages 13-16 seems appropriate for our times. Samvegathe oppressive sense of shock, dismay, and alienation that come with realizing the futility and meaninglessness of life as it’s normally lived; a chastening sense of our complacency and foolishness in having let ourselves live so blindly; and an anxious sense of urgency in trying to find a way out of the meaningless cycle.” ~Sarah

Infinity Yoga Studio UPDATE

Hello Infinity Yoga Studio Community,

Here is the newest studio update:
Our studio doors remain closed at this time. We all miss you very much. We have been busy cleaning our studio and props to prepare for the studio to open and have you all back for our in-person classes! 

Heather’s Beyond Our Mat Workshop are Mondays at 6pm, email her at hgerdes76@gmail.com if you would like to join. Also, this Thursday Heather will be trying out a virtual yoga class at 5pm. This will be her regular Basic Fundamental Yoga Class, if you are interested please email her so she can add you to the Zoom invite list. We wish you all a great week!

Please continue to follow us on Facebook as we continue to focus on the 8 limbs of yoga. Limb #4 is Pranayama (breath). Pranayama is the control of our breath and is designed to nurture the vital force (prana) within. Pranayama increases vitality, mental focus and expands consciousness. Our breath can alter our mood and psychological state. Conscious breathing provides oxygen and energy to our cells and enhances all cellular processes.
This week we will look at various breathing techniques and their benefits.

April Newsletter

Dear Infinity Yoga Community,

Welcome to the month of April!! We have been experiencing some great weather during these challenging times. We continue to think of all of you and hope you all are staying well. Our beloved yoga studio remains closed as we continue to stay home and practice social distancing.

A reminder to all that Heather’s Beyond Our Mat Workshop is starting this week. This is a virtual workshop that will be held on Mondays starting this Monday April 6th at 6pm via Zoom. If you are interested in participating, please email her at hgerdes76@gmail.com so she can forward you the invite. This workshop will dive a little deeper into the 8 limbs of yoga and how we can apply them to our everyday life. This is a free workshop but donations to our yoga studio and the use of your already purchased punch cards are an option. If you need to purchase a new yoga package, you can contact the main clinic at 507-453-7941 to purchase over the phone.

We encourage everyone to continue to support Winona’s local small businesses, like Infinity Yoga Studio, by purchasing gift cards, utilizing curb side and take out options. Our community has been doing an excellent job in supporting our local businesses and as we continue to feel the affects of COVID-19, this is critical for the livelihood of Winona.

Infinity Yoga Studio UPDATE

Dear Infinity Yoga Studio Community,

As you all are aware, Governor Walz announced a stay at home order last Friday for the State of Minnesota that is effective until Friday April 10th. We will continue to follow his directive and remain closed until this order and the need for social distancing has passed.

We continue to wish everyone health and safety through this pandemic. Our staff misses each and every one of you. We look forward to getting back into the Studio and resume our normal offerings in-person.

We Miss You!

Happy Sunday!

What a strange time we are all sharing in life right now. Previously mentioned in our Newsletter, communications would be sent out at the first of every month. However, due to the unforeseen circumstances, we find it appropriate to increase our communication as we are all trying to find ways to stay connected in the world.

Infinity Wellness & Yoga Studio would like to give a shout out to all the amazing people coming together to assist our community and the greater impact it is having on a global level. We love seeing all the imaginative ways people are taking care of themselves and each other. It warms our hearts to be part of such an amazing community in Winona.

We have an amazing community of yoga studios that are doing their best, working hard and keeping us all connected through live streaming yoga classes right here in Winona. One of our very own yoga instructors, Elle, is one of the amazing people to offer this form of connecting. If you want to learn more, please see below for more information. We appreciate your patience, support and understanding while we will continue to get creative in how we can remain connected.

For the next few weeks, Heather will be engaging with all of you via Facebook and our Newsletter to look at yoga from a different perspective. Yoga is much more than the physical practice. Now is a perfect time to go above and beyond our mat and take our yoga practice into all areas of our life. Heather is offering a deeper look into the 8 limbs of yoga. Here at Infinity Yoga, we are a small yoga studio with lots of heart and people who share their love and knowledge of healing through Yoga, Qi Gong & T’ai Chi, and Pilates. During this time, we know many people are facing economic hardships and we want to make Heather’s online workshop accessible to all. There is no charge to participate, however, if you would like to donate to our studio, use your yoga punch card for payment or purchase a yoga studio package we can make those arrangements.

Human connection is what we miss the most BUT we love getting creative and learning a unique way to still feel the joy our in-person classes brings us. To keep us all motivated please take a moment to reflect on the question, “Why do I practice yoga?”

COVID-19 Precautions

Hello Infinity Yoga Community,

Due to the current global health concerns with COVID-19, the health of our yoga students, instructors, Infinity Practitioners, patients and community are a top priority and we want to do our part in slowing the spread.

In order to keep our community as safe and as healthy as we can the following precautions will be implemented until further notice:

  • Class sizes will be kept to a minimum
  • We ask students to provide a little extra space around each other during class
  • Do NOT use props that can’t be wiped down (bolsters, blankets, straps)
  • Please bring your own mat and props from home if you have them
  • Stay home if you are feeling ill with flu-like symptoms
  • Sanitize all surfaces and yoga mats

At this time, we believe this is the best course of action. We ask that you please consider continuing your own practice at home if you are feeling ill or have been around people who are ill. If you have returned from any of the specific areas detailed on the CDC’s website (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) in the last 14 days, refrain from attending any INFINITY classes. Our teachers have also been encouraged to self-quarantine after any recent foreign travels.
Now is the perfect time to continue to your own personal yoga practice, connect with your breath, and turn inward for your own personal healing both mind, body and spirit.

We will continue to keep you apprised of any changes. Communication is imperative, so please keep watching for updates as they become available. We will communicate via email, our website https://infinitywinona.com/ and Facebook. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at hgerdes76@gmail.com or communicate with your yoga instructor.

SPECIAL NOTE TO ELLE’S STUDENTS from Elle:
As many of you know, yoga has been an integral part of my own healing these past few years and I have learned from personal experience how important stress management is for our health, especially our immune systems. My belief is that we need our practice even more than usual right now. To that end, I am in the process of figuring out ways this can happen even though we can’t all meet together right now.

My plan so far is to hold classes this week and record them. These would be made available to those who aren’t able to come to class but don’t want to miss their practice. The details of this are right this moment being figured out! Please stay in touch with me via email, Facebook, or through my newsletter, and I will keep you all updated.

Hello All.

My name is Heather (Gerdes) Lorenz, as you may have heard, I officially took over as the Infinity Yoga Studio Manager March 1st. I wish to take a moment to introduce myself to you in this Newsletter to say hello and to proudly say I am excited for this amazing opportunity to serve our yoga community. I look forward to meeting everyone in person!

Hi Everyone,

This time of year is known for endings and beginnings and here at Infinity this has been playing out literally. As of March 1st, Sydney and I both happen to be stepping down from our management positions and Sydney will be moving on from Infinity altogether. Read her beautiful message below.

As promised by the title we are not just saying goodbye but also saying hello to the new Infinity Studio Manager, Heather Lorenz. I am excited for the fresh perspective she’ll bring our studio and look forward to hearing more of her ideas.

For me, this change doesn’t mean I’m leaving Infinity, it just means that I will have more time and energy to put towards what’s most important to me, teaching. It also doesn’t mean that I won’t write weekly newsletters, but from now on they’ll be coming from my own blog. I’ll include my weekly class updates, upcoming events, and whatever other musings I’m inclined to share. Everyone is welcome I hope you’ll sign up!

Heather will find her own rhythm of communicating with you all and will absolutely keep you informed about all the important things.

As my time managing Infinity Yoga Studio comes to a close, what I feel most of all is a profound sense of gratitude for everything I’ve learned from this position and for the chance to meet all of you.

I also want to take this moment to publicly honor everything Sydney has brought to Infinity not only as a manager but also through her offerings of NRT, Reiki, and CranioSacral Therapy. Sydney, I speak for all of us in saying, you will be greatly missed. And we look forward to following your next adventure!

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been reading Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and this quote has stayed with me.  I have been thinking a lot lately about how — even when we strive for consistency in our lives — the thing that we can always count on is change. Our practice, then, isn’t to protect us from change, but rather to keep us strong enough to face the changes before us, and help shape the transformations.

This week Mollee is teaching her Lunchtime Gentle Yoga class at Bluff Country Co-op, it’s a free class but you’ll want to make sure to RSVP at 507-452-1815.

Yoga Nidra with April is this Sunday. We’re so lucky to have this beautiful practice offered every month! If you haven’t tried Yoga Nidra yet, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

If you have friends who have wanted to try out yoga but don’t feel comfortable jumping into an all levels class, let them know about Heather’s Basic Fundamental Yoga classes.

Happy Month of Celebrating Self Love!

For me, showing up for myself on my mat has been one of the ways I learned to love myself. I think of my practice as a laboratory/classroom where I learn about myself and test out new ways of being in a controlled environment before I try and take them into the world. It was in yoga classes that I first realized the level of internal criticism I had going on, and it was my first practice ground for changing those habits.

This week we have a few changes: Deb’s Pilates Fusion class is moving to Friday afternoons, and Lynn is back and teaching T’ai Chi and Qi Gong on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Heather Gerdes is also beginning some  brand new Basic Fundamental Yoga Classes on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings. If you have friends who have been talking about wanting to try yoga but are not comfortable walking into an all level class this is a perfect opportunity for them.

Hello Everyone,

I have some fun news for the Nia enthusiasts out there. Jacque is introducing a new routine, Ignite!

This is also the last Wednesday Pilates Fusion class with Deb for a while, but never fear, starting in February (next week) you can practice with her on Friday instead.

Change seems to be in the air, which is why I love this line from the Alchemist, it reminds me that no matter what we’re desiring in life, we can figure out how to have some of it now. I invite you to catch this wave of change and think about what you want for yourself, your practice, your future. More importantly, discover what part of your dreams you can start living right now.

Hello Everyone,

I always expect the quote above to end with us getting to choose how present we are with each of the seasons, or that we get to choose how to interpret them. I find it more inspirational that we to choose what we contribute to life when each season arrives.

Of course if we get to be intentional about what we are contributing, it presupposes that we are aware enough and strong to make these choices. This is, of course, where our practices come in.

You’ll notice as you check out the schedule below that I have the privilege of subbing for Sarah on Tuesday, and that Mollee’s Gentle Yoga class will be held at Bluff Country Co-op rather than Infinity.

Hello Everyone,

I love this quote, and I know a lot of others do too! It reminds me how relationships and experiences open us up to more of ourselves. And the more we know of ourselves, the more we can be open to experiences and relationships.

If we let it, learning to listen to ourselves and be compassionate with ourselves in our practices can inform how we listen to others. And of course, the opposite is true, we can learn to apply the same compassion we afford others to ourselves. It’s quite the interconnected situation, wouldn’t you say? Perhaps even an infinite loop?

We don’t have any changes this week, but I do want to let you know that for the months of February and March, Pilates Fusion with Deb will be on Fridays instead of Wednesdays. So make sure you mark your calendars!

Happy New Years Everyone!

We’re still on a holiday calendar, so make sure you look over our schedule carefully before you come to class.

For those of you who are practicing with me on Wednesday, Jan. 1st, we’re gathering afterwards for a short celebration.  Since our favorite local coffee shops are closed, Rob Brault volunteered to help us set up an outdoor location complete with fire pit. Rob can set up (and take down) fire pits quickly and I can tell you from experience that they always add an extra element of fun!

I will bring an airpot full of warming cinnamon tea. You can bring a cup, and a chair to sit on. If you feel inspired to bring beverages or treats to share, please do!  If weather prevents outdoor fun we’ll come up with an alternative. Email me at ellenewman11@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Saturday was Solstice, Hanukkah begins Sunday evening, Christmas is Wednesday and the New Year will be here before we know it. It’s no longer just the Holiday season, the Holidays are here!

First I wanted to tell you there’s a change in the week’s schedule: there’s no Restorative and Yin Yoga class with April this Sunday. April will return Sunday, January 5th with a special Nidra class. I’ve included this week’s schedule at the bottom for your reference.

Make sure you look over our schedule carefully — we have a few teachers out of town the last week in December and the first week in January. But there are still plenty of classes for you to keep your practice going over the holidays.

Hi Everyone!

Winter Solstice is this Saturday, 10:19 p.m. here in Minnesota, for those of you who like to keep track of these things. This Solstice means different things to different people. The official beginning of winter, the new year, time to gather with friends, and time to meditate.

For me, keeping this time of year joyful rather than stressful is about keeping my true priorities in mind. Time and energy are such precious commodities that I feel best when I’m spending them wisely. I have been thinking about the phrase “pay attention” with this in mind. Some things are worth the cost of my attention: my relationships with family and friends, my yoga practice, the little handmade gifts I’ve been working on. Some things are not. When I feel stressed, I have found it a useful practice to notice where I’ve been paying my attention. When I spend a day working on things I don’t really care about, I feel very different than when I spend my time going towards things that bring joy into my life and the lives of others.

We hope you’ll join us for a practice or two this week. I’ll be leading a gentle class on Saturday, ending in Solstice Meditation, and April will lead a beautiful Restorative Yoga class on Sunday.

Mollee’s Gentle Yoga class on Tuesday is at the Coop. More information about that and the rest of our class schedule below.

Bluff Country Co-op has partnered with us to offer you a free yoga class in the Co-op’s Community Room on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. De-stress and re-focus while getting your yoga fix during the lunch hour. This all-levels 45-minute yoga sequence will help create balance in the body and mind and, of course, connect with and honor the light within us all.

Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra with April

Hi Everyone!

Thanksgiving is just one more excuse for me to tell you all how much I appreciate you! Many of you I practice with regularly and I sincerely hope you know how much you mean to me. I’m honored to lead you in practice every week!

I also want to say thank you to my fellow teachers at Infinity. Mollee, Lynn, Jacque, Deb, Sarah, and April, you are awesome. I truly appreciate the expertise you bring to Infinity Yoga Students, and how much you care. You teach amazing classes whether there’s 1 person in the room or 20. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

If you’re reading this and are feeling appreciative of your teachers, I encourage you to attend their classes and tell them in person! You’ll have plenty of chances this week as our classes are as regularly scheduled with the exception of no Nia on Thanksgiving.
