October Newsletter

Welcome Fall Season!

This time of year is always an exciting one for me. I have been hearing the chatter of fallen leaves rustling around on the ground, I have been watching the beautiful display of changing colors of the trees around me, smelling the fresh and crisp air of autumn, and feeling the grounding affects as a trek through nature.

Autumn has been one of pleasantness for me. I think of the cozy sweaters and all things apple and spice. This season is one of the most beautiful to me and to our humanness. It is a reminder of just how impactful Mother Nature is on our lives.

Autumn brings a time of change. As we all know, change is the only constant. It is a time to connect with our bodies, minds, and spirits. Connect with our surrounding, our environment. Take the time to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. Be present, be alive.

As nature around us is changing, how are we changing too? It seems like this is a time for mystical unknowns. What will we choose to let go of, choose to hold on to? How can we choose to live a more fulfilled life?

Now is a time to think about protection. What do we need to survive? Thinks of the animals preparing for hibernation, what foods are they beginning to collect for winter storage? Our farmers are busy in the fields for the harvest season. People are enjoying the last few days where they can be outdoors and moving before settling in for our own human hibernation rituals.

Hot teas, warm sweaters, our favorite knitted scarf and hat. We start to protect our bodies and find comfort in the coziness of snug and quaint spaces in our homes. We feel safe and sound.

Our autumnal equinox brings us balance. Day and night are the same length. How does this resonate with our own longing for balance in our life? How do we find our peace, harmony, and solitude with the change of lightness and darkness?

Here are a few things you may choose to do to celebrate this autumn season:

  1. Make a gratitude list and connect with it daily
  2. Create balance at home by decluttering
  3. Find time to do arts and crafts
  4. Start something new, something you have always daydreamed about
  5. Visit our local farmers market or orchard
  6. Eat seasonal foods
  7. Decorate your home with fall colors and crafts
  8. Meditate and practice yoga
  9. Build a fire and watch it dance
  10. Create a bedtime routine
  11. Be one with nature; go outside and connect
  12. Let go of what is no longer serving you

Enjoy this fall transition. Connect with your inner being. Breathe. Rest. Restore.

Please continue to follow us on Facebook as we continue to focus on the 8 limbs of yoga. Limb #4 is Pranayama (breath). Our breath can alter our mood and psychological state. Conscious breathing provides oxygen and energy to our cells and enhances all cellular processes.

Happy New Years Everyone!

We’re still on a holiday calendar, so make sure you look over our schedule carefully before you come to class.

For those of you who are practicing with me on Wednesday, Jan. 1st, we’re gathering afterwards for a short celebration.  Since our favorite local coffee shops are closed, Rob Brault volunteered to help us set up an outdoor location complete with fire pit. Rob can set up (and take down) fire pits quickly and I can tell you from experience that they always add an extra element of fun!

I will bring an airpot full of warming cinnamon tea. You can bring a cup, and a chair to sit on. If you feel inspired to bring beverages or treats to share, please do!  If weather prevents outdoor fun we’ll come up with an alternative. Email me at ellenewman11@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Here’s to another year of practicing together at Infinity Yoga Studio!

Studio News for week of March 25th

I am going to try and pay attention to the spring. I am going to look around at all the flowers, and look up at the hectic trees. I am going to close my eyes and listen.
―Anne Lamott

Spring MandalaHappy Spring!

Especially when life feels like it gets busier, it’s important to take time to slow down and listen to ourselves. Ironically, in slowing down and paying attention we experience more of life.

One great way to slow down and listen is by attending Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra with [[April]]. It’s coming up this Sunday at 6pm.

I also want to draw your attention to the Mini Retreat I’m offering in May. If you often feel like an hour practice just isn’t enough time to go as deep as you want into your practice, or you wish that you didn’t have to choose between attending a gentle class which opens you up or a Forrest Inspired class which warms you up and develops strength, then this is for you. More information below.

Hope to see you on the mat soon!

Yoga Journey and Forrest Inspired Mini Retreat

Yoga Journey
Beginning the first week in March each week’s themes will be centered around Forrest Yoga concepts including bringing elements from the 4 directions into our practice. It’s a way for me to share with my students in a deeper way some of the healing practices of Forrest Yoga. You don’t have to do anything special, just continue to attend classes regularly.

My Saturday morning classes will continue to be Gentle Yoga classes but we will be along for the journey as well. These  are more meditative by nature which makes them the perfect time to explore deeper aspects of healing practices.

Forrest Inspired Mini-Retreat
Our journey will culminate in an opportunity for a longer practice. We’ll begin with a decadent warm up and have a chance to go deeper into our practice as well as spend longer in meditation.

Since this is for my students, I would love your input. If you are interested in participating in something like this, please fill out this doodle and let me know when you would be able to attend.

If you’re not able to attend at least once a week but still want to attend the mini-retreat, please talk to me about it. If you’ve been a regular student of Jen’s in the past and are familiar with Forrest Yoga but can’t make my regular classes, I’d love to see you!

When: To be determined. Please fill out this doodle if you’re interested in attending.
Cost: $30 early bird, $40 at the door.

Weather Related Cancelations

Infinity Office is closed tomorrow and there will be no Lunchtime Gentle Yoga. As of right now Hailey is still planning on holding class but make sure to check back if the roads are iffy tomorrow evening.

Be safe and take care of yourself!

New Nia Routine: Source

In Nia, we believe that every person can discover, explore, unleash, and enhance their individual potential to live a healthy and meaningful life by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies.

One thing that makes Nia unique is how much intention goes into everything.  Instructors have a focus and intention before every class they teach. While we may practice the same routine for many weeks, the intention changes each time.  We may focus on the knees, the breath, or maybe listening to the music. We are able to experience movement and our bodies in unique ways each week as we apply the focus.

This same intention goes into the creation of full Nia routines. In January we will be dancing to the new routine, Source.  In this routine, the focus is the EYES with the intention to engage the spine and direct attention. Have you ever free danced with your eyes? Curious?  You can learn more from creators Kelly Rae Oien and Kevin Vereecke in this video:

I hope you will join us!

Best,

Jacque

Though students are welcome to pick and choose the classes they attend, you will make the most progress by attending all of them. Make sure you check out our weekly newsletter to learn about the current week’s theme.

  2. Seated postures
  3. Inversions
  4. Restorative Yoga
  5. Forward Folds
  6. Backbend/ heart opening
  7. Twisting poses.

Nurture Your Joy with Elle

Cultivating joy in my life both on and off my mat is an important part of my personal practice, and I love to share it as an instructor. Every time we choose to attend to our practice, and to ourselves, it’s like we’re storing up joy for our future. We’re taking care of our future selves’ mind, body, and spirit!

Any practice that is truly transformative will have its challenges but that doesn’t mean every moment is drudgery. Even within in a single pose, part of us might be working hard, but then another part of us gets to release.

This week (10/29 – 11/3)  in class we’ll be tracking down and growing our joy. Below is an idea of what you can expect in my classes.

Forrest Inspired Vinyasa

Monday 8:15am:

Turn your frown upside down with inversions.

Friday 8:15am:

Joyflow. Using Sun Salutations and Flowing poses as a metaphor we’ll explore following your Joy.

Forrest Inspired Basics

Monday 4:30pm, Wednesday 8:15am

Using the wall as support, we’ll explore triangle, half moon, and more.

Gentle Yoga

Saturday 10:45am

We’ll be playing with balance poses and ending with a meditation geared towards brining more joy into our weekends.
