Somatic Bodywork With Sharon Mansur
Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst
Somatics is a field of wholistic mind/body movement studies and bodywork that emphasizes internal sensory perception and experience. The term Somatics was coined by Thomas Hanna, and “soma” means the body as perceived from within.” Somatics supports greater awareness and ease in the body, allowing for more choices which can lead to transformations physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Sharon Mansur’s Somatics approach is based on the pioneering movement analysis, fundamentals, and re-patterning work of Rudolph Laban and Irmgard Bartenieff. Laban (1879–1958) was a European scientist, dancer, choreographer, educator and community organizer who drew from Eastern and Western theories to create a discipline of body studies rooted in universal concepts. Bartenieff (1900–1981) was a dance artist and physical therapist who further developed and brought his work from Europe to the U.S. Her research became known as Bartenieff Fundamentals, based on the primary idea that everything is connected.
